PROFILE OF THE ENTERPRENEUR - SHIJA HOSPITALS & RESEARCH INSTITUTE ,LANGOL  Dr. KH. PALIN -Chairman Cum Managing Director SHIJA HOSPITALS & RESEARCH INSTITUTE Academic/Professional Background : MS (General Surgery), MCh. (Plastic Surgery), FICS. Dr. Kh. Palin, the moving spirit of Shija Hospitals, Imphal, as Chairman cum Managing Director, was born on 9th September, 1956 at Imphal. After completion of M.B.B.S. from RIMS, Imphal in 1978 he worked as a Registrar in casualty and general surgery departments in the parent institute. He had completed MS (General surgery) from PGI Chandigarh in 1984 after which he joined the department of plastic surgery as a Senior Resident. He had completed his MCh. (Plastic Surgery) from PGI Chandigarh again in 1992 after which he was promoted to the post of Assistant professor of plastic surgery in 1993. He performed several innovative surgeries during his tenure at RIMS .He had resigned from RIMS as Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery on 16 February 1996 to devote himself for the rapid advancement in the field of medical science in North-East India in general and Manipur in particular with the vision of world class healthcare at the doorstep at an affordable cost.
He also underwent training in microvascular surgery, laparoscopic surgery, ultrasonography . He brought the art of laparoscopic surgery for the first time in Manipur in April 1996. He is credited for the historic installation of Harmonic Scalpel (USA)- an instrument for bloodless surgery, for the first time in India at Shija Hospitals, Imphal, on 25th January 1997 He is also credited for the installation of IRC ( Infra Red Coagulator, USA), the latest and most scientific non operative treatment of piles in 1997 for the first time in Eastern India. He brought facilities of video endoscopy upper & lower GI, ERCP, FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery), Arthroscopy, PCNL, URS, CLT for the first time in Manipur and ICU and Neurosurgery in private sector in Manipur.

Academic and Medical Feats a. He was the editor of the Association of the Surgeons of India, Manipur Chapter for the two years. He has presented 40 scientific papers in the state, national and international conferences. He has presented 10 programmes on plastic surgery in DDK, ISTV and AIR
b. He was included in the top 50 Smile Train plastic surgeons of the world in 2007 and attended American Society of Plastic Surgeons and Advanced Cleft Lip and Palate conference at Baltimore, USA.
c. He performed free-flap surgery successfully for the first time in North- East India in 1995.
d. He has successfully re-implanted an amputated thumb and forearm for the first time in north eastern India in March 2000 and April 2005.
e. Dr Kh Palin and his team has set a record in Guinness World Record in April 2004 for successful excision of largest neck tumour (40 % of total body weight) in the world.
f. He delivered the prestigious “Late G P Sharma Memorial Oration” in Association of Surgeons of India, Assam Chapter Conference 2004 on “Innovation and Plastic Surgery”. g. He confer cash award “Late Itocha Memorial Award” for the best paper presentation in the All Manipur Indian Medical Association’s Annual Conference for the last ten years to encourage Medical Research and Education. h. He also confer cash award “Late Itocha Cash Award” for the topper in the Yaiskul Kendra Assembly Constituency in the Manipur Board of Secondary Education Examination for the last 5 years to encourage education among youth.
